Richard Marshall

Richard was diagnosed with MS in 2003 and became a trustee of the Samson Centre in 2012 “to give something back to the centre – it’s an amazing place of happiness and care through its professionals, staff and volunteers. The people there do so much for us, it always buoys me up and I’d hate to be without it. So, as long as I’m well enough I will happily try to help”. Richard is currently leading the fundraising campaign for the extension of the Samson Centre.
Richard spent his career in the City with leading banks and for 15 years in business development for a major law firm building an energy practice focusing on renewables and nuclear power. He was diagnosed with secondary progressive MS in 2001 and with his energy and cognitive skills rapidly diminishing took early retirement in 2009. Richard uses the Samson Centre, and particularly the gym facilities, every week. He and his wife Joan, who live in Cobham, have 2 grown up children. His other interests include cricket (as a member of the MCC) and classical music, particularly our great cathedral music and opera.
