Get To Know Me

Rachel Tasker, gym instructor.

A little about me

I have been involved in sport for over 20 years, most of that time as been spent in rowing. Training for rowing involve discipline, commitment and a bucket load of team work. Which is great for me as I’m at my best when working with others. More recently I have become involved in Olympic Lifting at Guildford Weight Lifting Club.

Me at the Samson Centre

I work at the Samson Centre on Thursdays and Fridays – big up to the Thursday/Friday crew! Love you guys 😊

I’m involved in a lot of one-to-one sessions when I’m in which is really great! I either work in the gym or in the main hall, sometimes it requires equipment and sometimes not. We might be working on strength, balance, stamina, walking and often a combination of these. The variety of equipment and settings here at the centre is so good. It allows me to create varied and appropriately challenging sessions.

I teach an online Neurofit class on Thursday mornings, I get the team moving with lots of everyday movements that I make useful and entertaining. My background of teaching group classes and leading teams gives me the skills I need to help individuals whilst still aiming towards a common goal. Neurofit is unique because it supports those are neurology challenged to move the way they would like to but are fighting against something they can’t control.

And the other thing I do is support the kayak classes on a Thursday morning. It’s a great mix of feeling sporty, being part of team and knowing that the activity is safe. The team that support this is multi-disciplinary and creates the perfect setting to take part, learn and develop. I have to give a big shout out to Davinia and Paul, I love working on this with you both and I’m ever hopeful we might get on the water at some point.

What I love about the Samson Centre

The strong sense of ‘can do’, even if someone is having a tough day (staff or member), the answer is always, ‘so what can we do’. And you can’t put a price on that.
